Charles Overton, Sr. age 74 of Chattanooga passed away Monday, May 3, 2021. Charles retired from Combustion Engineering / ALSTOM, a once major manufacturer of boilers for owner generation plants. He worked in design engineering, process engineering and was a manufacturing foreman. He also had a part time business, Overton Alternators, that he took over after his father’s death. He considered this his hobby and was always eager to help someone out when they have a car problem. Charles was an avid fan of Atlanta Braves and LSU Football. He was part of group of coworkers from Combustion who loved to fish and would travel to Scottsboro, AL every year. He only fished once a year and never missed his trip. He also played golf one time a year in the annual Combustion Golf Tournament. Charles was affectionately known as COO, Smiley and Mr. Personality by his friends. He will be missed by his friends, customers, and family. He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Overton; mother, Pearlie Overton & sister, Nora Gibson.
Those left to treasure his memories are his wife of fifty-two years, Julia “Polly” Overton of Chattanooga; children, Kristy (Steve Conroy) Simpson of Rising Fawn and Charles O. Overton, Jr. of Chattanooga; sisters, Linda Jolly of Redbank and Sharon (John) Wilson of Graysville; grandchildren, Joseph Simpson, Wade Simpson, Morgan Krause, Madison Overton, Carlie Overton & Kaiden Overton; great grandchildren, Riley Krause & Garrett Linder; brother-in-law, John Gibson of Chattanooga.
