James Edward “Roy” Layne, born October 8, 1951, in Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away on December 13, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Roy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his family above all else. His life was marked by love, strength, and the joy he found in spending time with those closest to him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Layne; his mother, Margie Green Layne; and his brother, Freddie Layne.

Those left to treasure his memories are his wife of 23 years, Linda Sue Layne of Whitwell; children, Judy (Wayne) Kilgore of Whitwell, Lynn (Paddle) Womack of Sequatchie, Hardy Cox of Whitwell, Jerry (Missy) Cox of Sequatchie, and Jasmine (Willie Gavin) Layne of Whitwell; siblings, Billy Layne, Juanita Thomas, Ethel Branum, and Helen Layne; grandchildren, Cassy Kilgore, Sha Kilgore, Bubba Kilgore, Cole Womack, Alex Fuler, Kristen Smith, Courtney Cox, Payten Cox, and Jerry Cox; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Roy will be fondly remembered for his love of family, his generous heart, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who knew him. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched.
