Mary Ellen Benson

Mary Ellen Benson of Jasper passed away Friday, December 5, 2025. She was the daughter of Charles & Gladys Hopewell and a loving wife to Don for 70 years. Mary Ellen had a love for all flowers, wildflowers growing along the roadside and planting them in her own yard.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her father, Charles Cloud Hopewell and mother, Gladys Linson Hopewell; brothers, Don and Billy Hopewell; sisters, Janice Leggett and Helen Fitzsimmons; and grandson Brad Benson.

She is survived by her husband Donald Edward Benson; sister Jeannie DeWolf of Cedar Rapids, Ia.; 4 children Dawn Benson Norman of Decatur, Ala., S. Michael Benson of Middletown, NY., Matthew Eric Benson of Greenbrier, TN. and Mark Edward Benson of Hixson, TN.; 8 Grandchildren Rachael Catalano, Krystal Ness, Tim Benson, Kaity Benson, Zachary Benson, Sierra Clary, Samuel Benson and Nathan Benson and 12 great grandchildren; Ava Catalano, Khloe Ness, Pierce Catalano, Ransom Ness, Wren Catalano, Roxy Ness, Indio Benson, Tana Benson, David Clary, Luke Benson, Tessa Clary and Levi Benson.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 10, from 4-8pm and funeral services will be Thursday, December 11, at 10am.
